Course Overview

In today’s complex working world, HR professionals definitely need to be equipped with counselling skills other than just dealing with staff selection, appraisal, training etc. as they also have to handle employee’s grievances, conflicts between employees and poor performance.

These counselling skills would help HR professionals to handle employee’s grievances, conflicts or performance-related problems in ways that not only it rectifies the situation but also increase employee’s productivity. HR professionals would also be able to handle disciplinary matters more competently.

Course Objectives

  1. To understand the importance of counselling in the workplace
  2. To ensure participants understand the role of counselling and responsibilities of HR professionals as counsellors, and the importance of each one.
  3. To identify the skills involved in counselling employees, specifically in employees’ grievances, inter-personal conflicts, family-related, attitude/behaviour, emotional/ psychological and disciplinary matters.

About the Trainer

Desmond Tan
Principal Consultant

Desmond has extensive experience in human resources and organisational development, both in the United States and around Asia. His career journey has taken him between consulting and several senior leadership roles in talent management/ organisational development across multiple industries. He was previously the Managing Director for premier HR consulting firm and is now the Principal Consultant with Argonite Consulting & Advisory, focusing on enabling leadership success, realising organisational transformation & designing talent management frameworks.

His expertise encompasses the design and implementation of assessment and development centers, change and talent management processes, executive coaching, organisational development interventions, as well as capability building and development/ learning strategies. Desmond’s consulting experience spans across industries including pharmaceuticals, logistics, heavy industries, finance (banking and insurance), FMCG, manufacturing, shipping, information technology, oil and gas, and telecommunications.
