The Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Human Capital Management offers an understanding of the interdisciplinary areas of managing human resources productively in an organisation. The programme endorses competencies in attaining an academic and practical knowledge of HR techniques, motivation, and skills for managing and developing people as value-added assets.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Human Capital Management offers learners the opportunity to acquire sufficient breadth of knowledge, deeper insights and greater understanding of the interdisciplinary areas of managing human resources productively in an organisation and to understand the labour legislation and industrial relations in Singapore.
The programme endorses learners’ competencies in attainment of both academic and practical understanding of multi-dimensional HR techniques, motivation and skill for managing and developing people as value-added assets. The available specialisations are as follows:
Business Partnering: The programme focuses on enhancing knowledge of key business drivers and analysis of important company data to help organisations make informed decisions with regards to business impacts.
Reward Management: The programme focuses on enhancing knowledge on delivering strategic insights and equip learners on how to connect organisational excellence to people management by systematically designing and developing compensation structures to drive organisation’s performance.
Organisational Development and Psychology: The programme focuses on enhancing knowledge in organisational strategies, policies, structure and culture with emphasis on leadership.

Develop the skills and expertise to conduct HR analytics. The modules include identifying and analysing employment lifecycle data availability and developing HR metrics and analytics.

Business-HR Strategy Alignment
Learn to use HR models and theories to support business goals. It aims to enhance the learners’ competencies to align HR strategies with business strategies. Learners will be able to identify and describe HR models and theories.

HR Consulting
Identify the key concepts, describe the HR consulting process, and explain the relevant models and theories.

Effective Compensation Structures
Enhance skills and abilities to carry out basic base pay structure design. In addition, delivering compensation programmes that are aligned with the culture and business needs of your organisation.

Performance-based Rewards
Examine how total rewards can motivate, recognise, and boost employee performance. New concepts and practises will be examined for applicability in different organisational contexts. The modules examine current and future total rewards trends.

Organisational and Workplace Intervention
Examine organisational psychology’s applications. Themes and theories from organisational psychology and how such concepts are applied to workplace life at the individual, team, and organisational levels are explored.

Development Theory & Practice
Gain a strong understanding of theories and concepts in organisational development (OD) to achieve opportunities for consultancy role application.

Sessions
Lessons are conducted on 2 Friday evenings (7pm – 10pm) and 2 weekends (full day; 9am – 5.30pm) per month/ module.
Module 1: Learning & Change Leadership
- This module explores and evaluates the concepts and theories related to how individuals learn and acquire new knowledge and skills, as well as managing and leading change at the workplace. Throughout the different topics there will be discussions on the applications of these concepts and theories in common challenges related to people management and development.

Module 2: Human Resource Management
- The module aims to provide learners an overview of the key deliverables of Human Resources function. It focuses to enhance learners’ skills and abilities to improve the overall credibility of the HR function by delivering programmes which are aligned with the business needs of their organisations while giving them substantial view of Manpower Legislation Laws of Singapore.

Module 3: HR Analytics & Insights
- The module provides learners with knowledge and skills for human resource Analysis capability. Through a project / assignment, learners will develop and acquire the necessary skills and expertise to carry out fundamental HR Analytics. Module shall aid learners to understand identification and analysis of data availability in the entire Employment Lifecycle, identification of various types of HR related data / metrics and their effective interpretation and presentation, identification and development of HR Metrics and Analytics in various key stages of Employment Lifecycle.

Module 4: Alignment of Business & HR Strategies (Specialisation: Business Partnering)
- The module provides learners with an overview of the key challenges of businesses. Learner will be able to identify the key concepts, describe the HR models and explain the relevant models/theories to support business objectives and goals. It focuses to enhance the learners’ competencies to align HR strategies to business strategies.
Module 4: Compensation Structures for Organisational Effectiveness (Specialisation: Reward Management)
- The module provides the fundamental theories, principles, practices, techniques, issues and case studies associated with Compensation & Benefits, primarily focusing on Compensation and the organisation; learner will be able to translate and apply the compensation theories, models, processes and strategies to achieve organisational goals.
- It focuses to enhance learner’s skills and abilities so as to be able to carry out basic base pay structure design from the initial job analysis, job documentation, job evaluation, job worth hierarchy and base pay structure. In addition, delivering compensation programmes which are aligned with the culture and business needs of your organization.
Module 4: Organisational Psychology & Workplace Intervention (Specialisation: Organisational Development and Psychology)
- This module explores and evaluates the concepts and theories in Organisational Psychology and how such concepts and theories are applied in the context of an organisation so as to provide the support for people development at the individual, team and organisation level. This module also includes related Workplace Intervention strategies in coaching and mentoring that are created to support the development of people based on the Organisation Psychology concepts and theories.
Module 5: HR Consulting (Specialisation: Business Partnering)
- The module provides learners with an overview of the key processes of HR consulting. Learner will be able to identify the key concepts, describe the HR consulting process and explain the relevant models/theories. It focuses to enhance the participants’ competencies to perform the role of an internal HR consulting role by delivering services that are aligned with the stakeholders’ expectations and business needs of their organisations.
Module 5: Performance Based Reward Strategies & Practices (Specialisation: Reward Management)
- This module focuses on the importance of the role of a reward strategy in businesses to drive superior performance by examining the current and future trends against a backdrop of international practices.
- The frameworks, concepts and theories covered in the course are introduced to explain how progressive organisations use total rewards strategies and practices to motivate, recognise and enhance employees’ performance. Various new concepts and practices will be examined to explore their applicability in various organisational contexts.
Module 5: Theory & Practice of Organisational Development (Specialisation: Organisational Development and Psychology)
- This module provides a strong foundation for anyone who is keen to gain a comprehensive understanding of Organisational Development or OD. Learner will not only gain good knowledge of theories and concepts in OD, but would get the opportunity to apply by conducting in-class consultancy with each other as groups of consultants and clients during the course of the module.
Assessment Methods
Candidates are assessed by individual assignment and/or group assignment with class presentation and written examination at the end of each module. Candidates must obtain a pass mark in both their individual assignment and/ or group assignment with class presentation and written examination to pass the module.

Face-to-Face Lesson
On completion of the PGDipSHCM programme, learners will earn 180 HR-related Training Hours/ CPD Hours (excluding Examination) that can be applied towards Application for or Renewal of IHRP certification.
The graduates will be issued a transcript and certificate for the programme, Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Human Capital Management upon successfully completing and passing 3 core modules and 2 specialised modules as stipulated in the programme structure. Graduates may use the title “PGDipSHCM” after their names once they have received the award.
Thereafter the completion, if the learner wishes to enrol for 2 more specialisation modules which make up one other type of specialisation, SHRI Academy will issue another transcript, with the same programme title, Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Human Capital Management, indicating the specialisations. There will NOT be another certificate issued.
To help graduates meet the needs of Singapore’s Employment market, SHRI Academy permits additional Specialisation to be taken ONLY by SHRI Postgraduate Diploma in HR graduates, who have successfully attained a full Certification – SHRI Postgraduate Diploma in HR. SHRI Academy will issue ONLY transcript, with the programme title, Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Human Capital Management, indicating the specialisation modules. There will NOT be another certificate issued and graduates are NOT permitted to use the title “PGDipSHCM” after their names.
PGDipSHCM graduates are encouraged to enroll for the Master of Science in Human Resources (Top-Up) programme, jointly offered by Edinburgh Napier University (UK) and SHRI Academy, subject to acceptance by the University.
