In this current challenging business environment, employing the right individual for the organisation is crucial. Hiring the wrong individual not only have an impact on the cost of operation, but also on the morale, productivity, and efficiency of the organisation.

A critical step in employee selection is the interviewing and selection process. The Competency-based Interview and Selection Technique focuses on the applicant past actions or behaviour in relation to the competencies or skills required for the job applied. Through this method, hiring is more structured and focused; rather than based on guess-work, potential bias or discrimination

Harassment awareness training, counselling and harassment prevention training are critical tools to ensure employees and supervisors understand proper professional conduct at work. It is therefore paramount for HR practitioners & leaders to know not just the “what”, in terms of the implications that current local legislation has on such incidents, but more importantly, on the “how”, which is the effective way to manage the emotions and sensitivities during the interaction with the affected employees. In certain instances, some employees may also turn to inappropriate or negative behaviours due to various reasons & HR practitioners will also need to be prepared to take up disciplinary measures against them where necessary.

In this 1-day workshop, the key focus is to provide HR practitioners with a structured and practical approach in engaging with employees through harassment issues, both from a perpetrator as well as victim point of view. This workshop also provides learners the basics of counselling, disciplinary measures, and employee conflict management/mediation.

An employee has a grievance when he or she feels that he/she has been treated in an unfair manner. In some instances, with proper explanation and through counselling, the matter can be resolved. At other times, disciplinary actions are required to solve the matter on hand. Upon reaching the decision to take the necessary disciplinary action, it is imperative to carry it out in a fair and just manner. This is to prevent any unhappiness between the employee and employer, as a negative relationship correlates to the working relationship within the organisation. Therefore, the people managers in the organisation need to be equipped with the proper skillsets to effectively handle grievance, discipline, and punish recalcitrant staff yet still gaining the respect and trust from other employees.

In today’s complex working world, HR professionals definitely need to be equipped with counselling skills other than just dealing with staff selection, appraisal, training etc. as they also have to handle employee’s grievances, conflicts between employees and poor performance.

These counselling skills would help HR professionals to handle employee’s grievances, conflicts or performance-related problems in ways that not only it rectifies the situation but also increase employee’s productivity. HR professionals would also be able to handle disciplinary matters more competently.
