The Master of Science in Human Resources (Top-Up) (e-learning) aims to bridge the knowledge practice gap. It is delivered part-time and comprises one 60-credit module spread over 6 months. The programme is well suited to practitioner-learners and mature part-time students.
The Master of Science in Human Resources (Top-Up) (e-learning) is designed by Edinburgh Napier University in collaboration with SHRI Academy. It aims to develop in student’s competencies and professional skills that can effectively integrate theory and practice in addressing the needs and challenges facing 21st century organisation. It is delivered on a part-time basis and comprises one 60 credit module spread over a 6 month period of study. Rooted in a practice-based learning philosophy, the programme is well suited to practitioner-learners and mature part-time students. As such, it aims to develop students’ capability to bridge the knowledge practice gap and conduct research in human resource management that is connected to real work issues and underpinned by a wide range of business data, research resources and methodologies. Upon completion of the programme, students will produce a 15 000-word practice-based Masters Research report, demonstrating well-honed research skills and professional competence in undertaking applied research that is based on an HR-based topic of significance and that potentially adds value to their host organisation.

Sessions
The classes will be either from 7pm to 9pm/10pm on weekdays or 10am to 12pm on weekend (subject to changes)
Trimester 1
- Edinburgh Napier University’s module leader delivers a block of 15 hours of lecture. Local tutor delivers a block of 8 hours of lecture – 4 tutorials of 2 hours.
Trimester 2
- Contact sessions with Edinburgh Napier University supervisor via email or skype.
Trimester 3
- Work on Practice-based master’s Research Report
Assessment Methods
Students will be assessed based on 3 components – Research Proposal, Scoping Study and Practice-based Masters Research Report.

e-learning
On completion of the Master of Science in Human Resources (Top-Up) (e-learning) programme, learners will earn 180 HR-related Training Hours/ CPD Hours that can be applied towards Application for or Renewal of IHRP certification.
Students who successfully complete and pass all the components stipulated in the course structures will be awarded the Master of Science in Human Resources (Top-Up) (e-learning) from Edinburgh Napier University. The programme offers a flexible way for those who have successfully completed a Postgraduate Diploma in HRM (or equivalent) and are keen to “top-up” their existing qualification with a Masters research report within a relatively short time frame of 6 Months while working at the highest academic standards.
- Practice-based master’s Research Report
- 60 Credits
- Taught Element
- Submission on Week 4 (Research Proposal Outline – Formative), by Week 12 (20% – Formal Research Proposal) and Week 17 (30% – Scoping Study). With the Final Practice-based Masters Dissertatinon (50%) submitted at the end of Trimester 2 or 3 depending on necessity.
Student will receive support and guidance from a local SHRI tutor as well as supervision from their Edinburgh Napier university tutor via email and skype.
