General
What is the Singapore Human Resources Institute (SHRI)?

Established in 1965, SHRI is Singapore's national HR Institute and the country's leading professional body for human resources.

As Singapore's sole representative in both the Asia Pacific Federation of Human Resource Management (APFHRM) and the World Federation of People Management Associations (WFPMA), SHRI plays an active role in shaping progressive HR practices across the region and beyond.

Through learning and development, thought leadership, industry events, and professional community, SHRI supports HR practitioners and organisations in building strong people management capabilities relevant to today's workplace.

Is SHRI a government agency?

SHRI is a not-for-profit professional HR body, independent of government, though we work closely with key partners including the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), NTUC, and the Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices (TAFEP).

This enables SHRI to offer practitioner-led insights and remain closely aligned with Singapore's national workforce priorities, while retaining the independence to serve the HR community on its own terms.

Is SHRI related to the Institute for Human Resource Professionals (IHRP)?

SHRI and IHRP serve different but complementary roles within Singapore's HR ecosystem.

SHRI is Singapore's national HR Institute, established in 1965, dedicated to building a stronger, better-connected HR community. Our work spans learning and development, thought leadership, industry events, and professional advocacy, supporting HR practitioners not just in what they know, but in who they become throughout their career.

IHRP is the HR body responsible for HR certification in Singapore.

I still have questions - who can I speak to?

To find the right fit, reach out to us via WhatsApp or the enquiry form on our website. Our team will be happy to learn more about your goals and guide you from there.

Academic Training
What courses does SHRI offer?

SHRI offers a range of programmes and customised courses designed to support HR professionals at every stage of their career. This includes short courses in areas such as employment law, HR analytics, leadership, and coaching, as well as proprietary programmes developed from SHRI's deep expertise in the HR profession.

For those seeking formal qualifications, we offer academic pathways from diploma through to master's degree level. Whether you are building your foundation, deepening a specialisation, or stepping into a leadership role, there is a programme at SHRI designed to support that next step.

What is the difference between short courses and academic programmes?

Short courses and academic programmes serve different needs, and the right choice depends on where you are in your career and what you are looking to achieve.

Short courses are designed for practitioners who want to build or refresh specific, job-relevant skills quickly. They are practical, focused, and structured around the competencies HR professionals need to stay current and effective in a fast-changing workplace. Academic programmes offer a deeper, more structured learning journey, leading to a recognised qualification. They are well-suited for those building a strong professional foundation early in their career, or for experienced practitioners looking to formalise their expertise and take the next step into more senior or specialised roles.

Selected academic programmes are offered in partnership with Edinburgh Napier University, providing internationally recognised qualifications for those who want their learning to carry weight beyond Singapore.

How do I know which course is right for me?

Choosing the right course depends on your current experience and career goals.

Whether you are starting out, building specialised skills, or preparing for career progression, the SHRI Academy team can provide guidance and recommend a suitable learning pathway. This helps ensure a confident and informed decision.

What is our academic progression pathway?

Certificate > Diploma > Bachelor’s Degree > Postgraduate Diploma > Master’s Degree.

Will SHRI courses help me in my career?

Yes. SHRI programmes are designed with real-world application in mind, and delivered by practitioners who have worked in the field themselves.

This means the frameworks, tools, and insights you gain are grounded in how HR actually works, not just how it is taught. Programmes are also kept current and relevant to Singapore's evolving workforce landscape, so what you learn reflects the competencies and capabilities the profession needs today.

Beyond the learning itself, being part of SHRI connects you to a community of HR practitioners and leaders. Many of our learners find that the relationships and conversations they build through SHRI are just as valuable to their career as the programmes themselves.

Are SHRI courses eligible for SkillsFuture funding?

Some SHRI Academy courses are eligible for SkillsFuture Credit and other government funding schemes, including UTAP support through NTUC. Eligibility varies by programme and individual circumstances. We recommend checking the specific course page for funding details, or speaking with our Academy team who can advise on the options available to you.

Are there instalment payment options?

Instalment plans may be available for selected programmes. Please contact the SHRI Academy team directly for details on payment options applicable to your chosen programme.

Will I receive a certificate after completing a course?

Yes. Participants who successfully complete their programme will receive a certificate from SHRI. For academic programmes offered in partnership with Edinburgh Napier University, qualifications are awarded by the university.

I don’t have HR experience - can I still join SHRI programmes?

Yes. Many learners come from non-HR backgrounds and are looking to transition into the field. SHRI Academy offers offers foundational programmes designed to build knowledge from the ground up, while equipping learners with practical, applicable skills.

Guidance is available to help identify a suitable starting point based on individual goals.

Can SHRI help me find a job after completing a course?

SHRI does not offer direct job placement services, but the value of a SHRI programme extends well beyond the certificate. Courses are practitioner-led and built around the skills and competencies that matter in today's HR landscape, strengthening how you show up in interviews and on the job. SHRI membership also connects you to a active community of HR practitioners and leaders, and many of our learners find that those relationships open doors in ways that a qualification alone cannot.

Can international learners join SHRI programmes?

International learners are welcome to enrol in SHRI Academy programmes, provided they meet the eligibility criteria and hold a valid work pass in Singapore.

SHRI does not sponsor student visas. Eligibility for enrolment is subject to residency and pass status. Please contact the Academy team to confirm your eligibility before applying.

What makes SHRI different from other training providers?

As Singapore's national HR Institute, established in 1965, SHRI is here to support HR professionals throughout their entire career journey, not just at the point of enrolment.

That commitment shapes everything we do. Our programmes are practitioner-led and designed around the competencies HR professionals need at every stage, from those entering the field to experienced practitioners stepping into leadership.

But the support does not stop when the course ends. Through our professional community, industry events, thought leadership platforms, and advocacy for the HR profession, SHRI stays alongside you as your career grows. The relationships, insights, and connections you build as part of SHRI are designed to serve you long after any single programme is complete. When you learn with SHRI, you are not just gaining a certification. You are joining a community that is invested in your growth as an HR professional.

Are SHRI courses recognised in the industry?

Yes. SHRI programmes are well-regarded within Singapore's HR community. SHRI Academy is EduTrust-certified and registered with SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG), reflecting the quality and credibility of our programmes. For degree and master's level programmes, qualifications are awarded by Edinburgh Napier University, whose Business School is AACSB-accredited and recognised among the top 6% of business schools globally.

Membership
Who should consider a SHRI membership?

SHRI membership is for anyone who works with people, in HR or beyond.

It is particularly valuable for HR professionals at all career stages, from those entering the profession to senior practitioners and leaders. It is also well-suited for managers, business owners, and executives whose roles involve people management, talent development, or building organisational culture.

If you want to stay connected to the HR profession, sharpen your thinking, and be part of a community of serious practitioners, SHRI membership is a meaningful investment.

What are the benefits of a SHRI membership?

SHRI membership is built around supporting HR professionals throughout their career. Members gain access to a professional HR community spanning practitioners, business leaders, and organisations across sectors. This includes exclusive member events, preferential rates for SHRI's flagship events, and invitations to thought leadership programmes and industry roundtables.

Beyond access and events, SHRI membership connects you to ongoing learning and development opportunities, including programmes led by practitioners with real-world HR experience. As your career evolves, SHRI remains a resource you can return to. That is the difference between a membership and a course. SHRI membership grows with you.

Membership fees may also be tax-deductible for individuals, subject to prevailing regulations.

What is the difference between Individual Membership and Corporate Membership?

Corporate Membership – membership is held by the organisation rather than an individual and is registered under the corporate email. It incudes a set number of employee slots, which are transferrable if someone leaves, so benefits continue without interruption.

Individual Membership – members may register with their personal email for personal use; membership will remain with you even if you leave the organisation. SHRI offers two categories of Individual Membership that you may apply for based on your qualifying criteria: Associate or Professional Member.

How do I join or renew my membership?

You can apply for or renew your SHRI membership through the online form on our website. If you need guidance on membership categories or the application process, our membership team is happy to assist.

How can I renew/sign up for two or more years of membership?

You certainly can! You can select multi-year membership terms directly within the renewal application form. If the specific duration you are looking for is not listed, please reach out to us at membership@shri.org.sg and our team will be happy to assist you.

What is my duty as a Professional Member during Annual General Meeting (AGM)?

Professional Members will be receiving notice of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) no less than 28 consecutive days before the date of the meeting. At least 20% of the Professional members shall be present at the commencement of the AGM to constitute a quorum. Professional Members attending the meeting have the right to vote during the AGM.

My personal details have changed, how can I update it?

Email us at membership@shri.org.sg to assist with this request.

Events
Are SHRI events open to non-members?

Selected SHRI events are open to non-members, while others are exclusive to the SHRI community. Attending an open event is a good way to experience what SHRI offers and connect with the HR community before committing to membership.

What events does SHRI organises?

SHRI organises a range of events throughout the year, from flagship platforms to community initiatives. These include the Singapore HR Awards, celebrating excellence in people practices; the HR Hackathon, driving innovation in HR; and the Winning with People thought leadership series, exploring the issues shaping the future of work.

SHRI also organises workshops in partnership with industry partners on relevant HR topics, and an annual CSR event as part of our commitment to the wider community. Each event is designed to bring the HR community together, creating space for learning, peer exchange, and meaningful connection.

What is the Singapore HR Awards?

The Singapore HR Awards is SHRI's annual flagship event recognising organisations and HR professionals for excellence in people practices, leadership, and innovation.

As Singapore's most established HR awards platform, it serves as a benchmark for HR standards in Singapore, celebrating the strategies, programmes, and individuals that are raising the bar for how organisations manage, develop, and care for their people.

What is the Winning with People series?

Winning with People is SHRI's flagship thought leadership series built on a simple but often overlooked truth: people decisions are business decisions. The series brings business leaders and HR professionals into the same conversation, anchored in real-world business challenges.

Through practitioner-led discussions, it connects people insights with business outcomes, translating intent into action. Each session is designed not just to inform, but to strengthen how leaders and HR professionals think, decide, and lead together.

I am from a company looking to reach HR professionals. Can SHRI share our information with its network?

SHRI may support relevant industry initiatives that align with its mission and audience. Requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis to ensure relevance and value to the HR community.

Are there collaboration or partnership opportunities with SHRI?

Yes. SHRI actively welcomes collaborations that bring genuine value to the HR community. We are open to partnerships across a range of areas, including training and capability development, events, research, and broader industry initiatives. If your work touches the HR profession and you see an opportunity to do something meaningful together, we would like to hear from you.

To explore a collaboration, reach out to us at events@shri.org.sg. Our team will review your proposal and follow up with you.

When you work with SHRI Corp, you are connecting to Singapore's foremost HR community, its thought leadership, industry research, and a network of HR practitioners and business leaders across sectors. SCTP & CCP
What is the difference between SCTP and CCP?

The SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme (SCTP) is a structured, full-time training programme designed to equip mid-career individuals with foundational HR knowledge and skills. It is suitable for those not yet attached to a company and qualifies for SkillsFuture Mid-Career Training Allowance.

The Career Conversion Programme (CCP), on the other hand, requires a committed employer to hire the participant and provide On-the-Job Training (OJT). CCP is workplace-based and subject to employer availability and hiring requirements.

I applied for CCP but was advised to register for SCTP instead. Why? Will I be attached to a company after SCTP?

You may have been recommended to register for SCTP because:

- There is no immediate job match or hiring employer under CCP.

- You may benefit from training first to strengthen your job readiness.

SCTP does not guarantee job placement, but SHRI offers career support such as enrichment sessions and networking events to connect participants with potential employers.

Is this programme mandatory in order to be hired by a company?

No, the SCTP programme is not mandatory for employment. However, it helps mid-career professionals acquire relevant HR skills to improve employability. SHRI supports participants with career development and networking opportunities.

Does the SCTP programme include placement into companies for HR roles?

No guaranteed placements are offered. SHRI enhances employment readiness through training, career workshops, and events to raise participants’ visibility with potential employers.

Is 'SCTP Human Capital Management' a prerequisite for the 'CCP – Human Capital Professionals' programme?

No, SCTP is not a prerequisite for CCP. However, it can enhance your skills and readiness for HR roles and improve your chances for future CCP opportunities.

I have attended HR-related or similar funded courses before. Am I eligible for SCTP and Mid-Career Training Allowance?

Yes, as long as you have not attended the exact same course (same course title and course number), you may register for SCTP.

To qualify for the SkillsFuture Mid-Career Training Allowance, you must have earned income in the 12 months before the course starts. The allowance is 50% of your average monthly income, capped between $300–$3,000/month, and paid via PayNow (linked to NRIC).

I have already taken HR-related courses. Should I apply for SCTP?

If you have already attended HR-related training, it is generally not recommended to take SCTP again. However, you may

still be eligible to apply for CCP – Human Capital Professionals, and SHRI will inform you about career and networking events to improve your employability.

Are there any companies providing On-the-Job Training (OJT) as part of the CCP?

Yes, companies participating in CCP must provide OJT. SHRI is actively engaging employers to increase placement opportunities for suitable candidates.

Can you elaborate on the procedure for successful placement under the ‘CCP – Human Capital Professionals’?

CCP requires a hiring company to commit to providing you with employment and OJT. SHRI supports this process by sourcing employers, reviewing applicant profiles, and helping to match suitable candidates. Placement is not guaranteed and depends on employer needs and candidate fit.

As the SCTP programme is a full-time course, will participants receive a salary or any allowance?

Participants are not paid a salary during the SCTP, but eligible Singaporeans may receive the SkillsFuture Mid-Career

Training Allowance, which supports income during training.

Who qualifies for the “greater needs” course fee support (up to 95%)?

Can SkillsFuture Credits be used to offset course fees?
