Postgraduate Diploma In Strategic Human Capital Management Graduate - Gold Award - Lawrence Teh
Congratulations to Lawrence, who won the Gold Award at the 72nd Joint Graduation in Absentia. Below is an account of the challenges he faced and his achievements.
“When I transitioned into an HR role three years ago, I realised I needed more formal HR credentials, even though I had some indirect HR experience in the past. I came across the Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Human Capital Management (PGDipSHCM) with a specialisation in Reward Management and thought it was the perfect fit for me.
The biggest challenge in taking the course was juggling work, studies, and family. The part-time schedule with classes on weekends helped a lot, but it still required a lot of support from my family, and I am very thankful for that. Group assignments were another challenge, requiring good time management and teamwork.
One memorable moment happened in December 2023 – it was both the last day of our 4th HRM module and the day I had to run a marathon. With my group's support, I managed to run the full 42 km and still made it back in time for our group assignment presentation. I was pretty wiped out, but I had the backing of my team, which was a great feeling!
The biggest lesson I learned was that continuous learning is essential. Sometimes you need to unlearn what you think you know and be open to new ideas. Keeping an open mind to learning from trainers and classmates was key to my growth.
If you are interested in the course but feeling anxious, here is my advice: Go for it. Continuous learning is the best way to stay relevant in this fast-changing world, and there is never a perfect time to start. So, if not you, then who; if not now, then when?”
