For some, pursuing a degree is more than just chasing paper qualifications – it's a journey of discovery, growth, and an investment in their future.
At SHRI Academy, the Bachelor of Arts in Human Resource Management with Organisational Psychology, offered in partnership with Edinburgh Napier University has equipped learners from various background with the knowledge and skills to become effective and strategic HR professionals.
Graduates from the Class of 2025 share their stories, reflecting on their experiences that shaped their learning – and how the programme played a pivotal role in helping them grow both personally and professionally.
Practical Skills You Can Apply Immediately
The Bachelor's programme combines academic rigour with real-world applicability, making it highly relevant for professionals looking to deepen their HR capabilities.
For Kane Gan, the programme’s value was its relevance. He shares, “Whatever we learned in the classroom could be immediately applied at work,” highlighting how the curriculum translates seamlessly into day-to-day HR practice.
Similarly, Kelly Liang found that the programme strengthened her critical thinking and problem-solving skills, enabling her to address organisational challenges with greater confidence and clarity.
The programme’s impact also extends beyond traditional HR roles. Lee Chew Leng, a Commanding Officer in the Singapore Armed Forces, shares how the knowledge gained allowed him to contribute more meaningfully within his organisation. “Learning about talent management and HR analytics helped me better support my subordinates and inspire their professional growth,” he says.
From Career Switchers to Lifelong Learners
Former cabin crew Raveena Kaur was drawn to HR for its people-centric nature and opportunities to solve workplace challenges. The programme allowed her to build on her strengths in communication while developing the skills needed for a career in HR. Coming from a non-academic background coupled with transitioning into a new field was demanding, but her efforts paid off as she was awarded Class Medallist.
For Kelly Liang, her journey started with SHRI Academy Certificate in Human Resource Management. As she progressed through the Diploma and eventually the Bachelor’s programme, her interest in HR deepened, reinforcing her decision to pursue the field as a career.
As the eldest graduate in the cohort, Julie Joseph demonstrates that learning has no expiry date. At 61, she views completing her degree as both a personal milestone – fulfilling an aspiration she began years ago – and a reflection of her commitment to lifelong learning. Balancing family, work, and study was challenging but incredibly rewarding as she was supported by her family, colleagues, and classmates.
Community, Network, and Support
Beyond academic learning, many graduates found value in the strong sense of community fostered throughout the programme.
Kane underscores the importance of building connections. “Forming bonds with classmates and networking with alumni gave me insights and perspectives I wouldn’t have gotten elsewhere,” he explains.
The supportive learning environment at SHRI Academy extended beyond the classroom, helping learners navigate challenges and stay motivated.
“The modules were enjoyable because my classmates supported and guided me through assignments and exams,” Kelly shares. Julie adds, “The on-site learning and connection with lecturers and classmates really enriched my journey.”
