President’s Message for Members


Dear SHRI Members and Corporate Friends,

Greetings and I would like to begin this mid-year update to our members by thanking you for your support for our past events,activities and all the initiatives that SHRI has been doing for our members. It has been a busy but fruitful period for the Institute. We provided and will continue to provide value-added networking opportunities for our members, corporate friends and stakeholders through an exciting calendar of programmes including our SHRI signature events and collaborative ventures in the pipeline.


Future of Work Forum 2018

Keeping the pulse on future trends and changes in the dynamics of our workforce, SHRI organised and hosted the Future of Work Forum on 24 April 2018. The event was graced by Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Communication and Information and Ministry of Health,
Mr Chee Hong Tat; Member of Parliament and Assistant Secretary General, NTUC, Mr Patrick Tay as well as industry experts, speakers, members, guests and over 200 attendees. The event provided a one-stop integrated platform, bringing together key industry experts, HR and business leaders who shared valuable insights and the latest trends in the ‘future of work’.

Senior Director, Human Resources and Organisation Development, SUTD, Dr Jaclyn Lee also hosted and moderated an interactive Panel Discussion on ‘Re-imagine the Future Workplace’ exploring how digitisation, automation and innovation are changing the fundamental nature of work.

HR Business Partner Forum 2018 – 27 September 2018

HR Business Partners are fundamental to both strategic and operational HR. Digitisation has impacted the entire gamut of HR function and the HRBP role is no different. Now more than ever, HRBPs play a critical role as future-ready
strategic partners in actively innovating and shaping positive changes that support business growth and human capital development. HR Business Partner Forum 2018 will offer practical insights from the industry’s top thought leaders and explore human resource and management capabilities that support business success so that Singapore can continue to have an innovative and resilient workforce on the global stage. The forum will be geared towards identifying pressing issues across organisations of all levels, including SMEs and start-ups, and bridge the gap between HR and business objectives.

The Singapore HR Awards Presentation Gala 2018

Our signature annual event concluded successfully on Friday, 20 July 2018, from 6.30pm – 10.30pm at Marina Bay Sands (Sands Expo and Convention Centre), 1 Bayfront Avenue. The event was graced by the Minister of State, Ministry of Manpower, Mr Zaqy Mohamad as Guest-of-Honour, and attended by some 500 guests comprising HR professionals, employers and business leaders. This year, 60 Awards were presented across 19 categories to public and private sector organisations; (MNC; SME; Startup; Not-for-Profit and Statutory Board) from diverse industries. Newly introduced categories this year included the Business HR Award and the Manpower Journalism Award.


IHRP Accredited Prep Course by SHRI Academy

In June, SHRI Academy launched its first intake of the IHRP accredited prep course: Employment Legislation & Industrial Relations. Don’t miss the 2nd intake of the 2-day workshop on 17-18 Sept if you’d missed the first. SHRI Academy will continue to support our members in their professional accreditations and learning journey.

HR Hackathon 2018

This year, SHRI updated the format of its annual Singapore HR Challenge to the HR Hackathon 2018 held at SIM Global Education Clementi campus, from 13-14 July 2018. The new format provided an experiential platform for student participants to better understand HR best practices, solve real-word HR challenges faced by HR professionals and present their solutions over two days. Over 70 youth participants from eight Institutes of Higher Learning participated in the event. Top four teams emerged into the Grand Finals which was graced by Senior Parliament Secretary, MOE, MOM, Ms Low Yen Ling.
